A New School for Our Community: St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary/Junior High School
Construction is underway on a new St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary/Junior High School (Grades K to 9) in Rundle Heights, scheduled to open in September 2027.
This new school will replace St. Bernadette Catholic Elementary School, St. Nicholas Catholic Junior High School, and the former St. Jerome Catholic Elementary School, bringing students together in one modern learning environment.
New Location and Modern Learning Spaces
The new school is being built on a new site in Rundle Heights, near 33 Street and 107 Avenue NW (former site of St. Jerome Catholic Elementary School), with space for more than 700 students.
The two-storey building is designed to support how students learn today, and will include:
- Classrooms organized in collaborative pods
- Central spaces for group learning and connection
- STEAM-focused learning environments
- A Career and Technology Studies (CTS) lab
- Fine arts and music learning spaces
- Large and small gymnasiums
- A foods lab
- A dedicated Soccer Academy space
Looking Ahead
The new school will carry forward the name St. Nicholas Catholic Elementary/Junior High School, continuing the legacy of the existing St. Nicholas Catholic Junior High.
St. Nicholas of Myra is known for his quiet generosity and care for those experiencing poverty. As the patron saint of children, he is a meaningful namesake for a Catholic K to 9 school. His example calls us to live with humility, kindness, and a spirit of service to others.
Students will continue to benefit from programming that supports both academic and personal growth, including opportunities in athletics, the arts, and hands-on learning.
We thank our families, students, and staff for their support as we move forward together as one Catholic school community.
