Science Academy
Edmonton Catholic School Division’s Science Academies offer students enhanced learning opportunities in the various fields associated with Science. Through various STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning activities, Science Fairs and Science Olympics, students are encouraged to participate in hands-on Science. By employing a variety of educational experiences in Science related areas, students learn to apply Science to their personal lives, appreciate the role Science plays in every aspect of their lives and to consider various careers in areas associated with Science. Partnerships with organizations such as APEGA (Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta) allow the Science Academies to develop programming that goes beyond the classroom experience of Science and take the students into the world around them to experience what they have learned.

Science Academy is open to Grade 8 and Grade 9 students.
Enrollment is limited to 23 students.

SCIENCE ACADEMY
Through field trips and hands-on activities, the St. Nicholas Science Academy encourages students to investigate their world from a variety of perspectives. This program is open to all grade 8 and grade 9 students through an application process. The Science Academy runs in the CTF Thursday morning schedule in one semester only.
FIELD STUDY
- field trips to various locations in the city that may include University of Alberta, Telus World of Science, Elk Island, North Saskatchewan River, city parks, Let’s Talk Science, Valley Zoo, Muttart Conservatory, Urban Farm, Root for Trees, Outdoor Adventures ... and more
- connection with science professionals, with presentations by APEGGA, MacEwan University, University of Alberta, DiscoverE, Beaverhill Bird Sanctuary, Butterfly Wings and Wishes, or Inside Education
HANDS-ON INQUIRY
- focus on activities and inquiry in physics, engineering, forensics, chemistry and biology
- leadership opportunity with elementary science demonstrations, and the Open House
- opportunity to participate in Edmonton Science Olympics, Skills Alberta
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math)
ACADEMIC ADVANTAGE
The Science Academy experience is designed to engage students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM). Students participate in activities that will give them an academic advantage as they prepare for the transition to high school science and mathematics curriculum.
COST
• $200 for one semester. Fee includes all entrance fees, transportation costs and supplies.
